Abstract

Programme Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a statistical tool used in project management and decision making. The use of PERT in educational management is very rare, may be due to the repetitive nature of the activities involved in educational management. However, with slight adjustment, it can be used in a very effective manner in the educational programmes especially in the field of Higher Education. This paper is an attempt to show how PERT could be fruitfully used in the educational programmes such as holding public examinations, organizing a seminar or conference, undertaking different educational projects, or preparing different curricula etc. Here, use of PERT in organizing a seminar is considered as a case study. The events and activities involved in organizing a seminar are identified. Events and activities are arranged in sequences. PERT time is estimated for each of the activities. PERT network is prepared and the critical path is identified so that the programme can be monitored.
