Abstract

This study aims to determine whether, through applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model, it can increase students' mathematics learning activities and outcomes in the social arithmetic material for class VII E students of State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 15 Yogyakarta. This type of research is a classroom action research conducted in 2 cycles. The research instruments used for data collection were observation sheets, interview sheets, tests, and field notes. The observation sheet is used to see the existence of student activity during the learning process. The test is used to determine learning outcomes after implementing the PBL learning model. The results showed that the application of this model could improve students' mathematics learning activities and outcomes. Based on the results of data analysis after the action, it was found that the average percentage of mathematics learning activities in Cycle I reached 54.54%. After taking action in Cycle II, the average percentage of learning activities in mathematics was 79.24%. There was an increase in the percentage of activity by 24.7%. The results of the analysis of the learning outcomes test in Cycle I obtained an average of 80.73. Twenty-six students completed (78.79%), while seven students did not complete (21.21%). The results of the analysis of the learning outcomes test in Cycle II obtained an average of 85.52. Twenty-four students completed (82.76%), while five students did not complete (17.24%). From the results of data analysis in Cycle I and Cycle II, it can be seen that mathematics learning activities have reached the target and student mathematics learning outcomes have increased.
