Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of presentation-assimilation-discussion (PAD) teaching model in midwifery teaching. Methods By convenient sampling, a total of 43 students from Class 16 (1) in the nursing department of medical school in Hexi University were selected as control group and 59 students from Class 16 (2) as observation group. The traditional teaching method was used in the control group while the PAD approach was adopted in the observation group. The two groups were compared in terms of their theoretical final examination results. The observation group's comments on the teaching effect were also evaluated. Results Upon completion of the course, the theoretical final examination result of observation group (57.13±7.15) was slightly higher than the control group (46.71±7.46) with statistical significance (t=-7.137, P<0.05) . High evaluation towards the PAD teaching model was achieved in the observation group. Conclusions The application of PAD model in the midwifery teaching can improve students' academic results, helps to cultivate their independent thinking skills, autonomous learning ability, teamwork spirit, and interpersonal skills, therefore it is worthwhile to be applied widely in the teaching practice.
