Abstract

A chelating resin containing isonicotinic acid hydrazone as functional group (P-NHZ) was synthesized and characterized through IR spectra and elemental analysis. The potential of this resin for the separation and preconcentration of Pd and Pt was extensively investigated. Efforts were also made for its use in the determination of Pd and Pt by Q-ICP-MS. The interferences from YO + during Pd analysis with ICP-MS can be overcome through a selective chromatographic separation procedure in which Pd and Pt are selectively taken up by P-NHZ resin column and Y breakthrough followed by 0.1 mol/l HCl as washing solution for further removal of the residue with Y retained on the resin. Preliminary analytical results of Pd and Pt in road dust were given, for which the precision may be further improved.
