Abstract
Due to the recent increase in attacks on police officers while serving in Ukraine, their personal safety has become particularly acute and urgent. The largest number of attacks are on police officers who monitor and supervise traffic. This article provides a general procedure for police officers when stopping a vehicle in our country, proposes changes to the state functions of control and supervision of compliance with road safety requirements. In the practice of police, mainly patrol, there are cases when after stopping the car to check the legality of its use, the driver blocks the door locks, raises the glass, refuses to leave the cabin and pass the traffic rules documents. Such behavior of drivers is most often caused by intoxication or lack of the right to drive a vehicle, registration documents. Another reason is the misunderstanding of the Law of Ukraine "On Road Transport" of 05.04.2001 as amended, as of 02.10.2021, namely Chapter 2 "State regulation and control of road transport" in the field of road safety, which lists the grounds to stop the vehicle. Drivers require police officers to provide conclusive evidence of traffic violations, official written documents on special events. In other words, drivers believe that they were stopped illegally, that according to the Law on the National Police of Ukraine, police officers have the right to check documents only at stationary patrol police posts.
