Abstract
Mesoionic oxazoles, thiazoles, diazoles and some related compounds have been investigated using one-bond 13C– 13C coupling constants. The observed values of 1J CC coupling across C4–C5 bond in a heterocyclic ring lie within the range 70–99 Hz. The dependence of 1J CC coupling on compound structure has been discussed. Magnitude of 1J C4C5 was rationalized in terms of bond conjugation, bond orders and compound aromaticity.
