Abstract

Nanotechnology due to special features and control of matter at scale nearly 1-100 nanometers could change agricultural systems. Nanotechnology has been demonstrated to have great potential in providing novel and improved solutions for many challenges, which the agriculture sector encounters and possibly to enhance yields or nutritional values. The application of nanotechnology for the controlled delivery of pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers provides new approaches to improve safety of products with increasing the efficiency of production and decreased pollution. The development of nanodevices such as smart delivery systems to target specific sites, also nanocarriers for chemical controlled release are currently important aspects in novel agriculture. In this review, we discuss about applications of new nanocarriers for smart delivery systems and their role in sustainable agricultural production.
