Abstract
The paper analyzes the flow of some multimedia services, and points to the possibility of applying some of the services in the broadband environment to improve the logistic needs of the army. The need to convey information in different forms (from text, data, graphics, still pictures to video motion pictures) is increasing continually. Requests for information transfer in high resolution require increasing the flow to several dozens of Mb/s. Broadband represents the platform for a wide range of multimedia services. Each multimedia service requires a certain flow which can be partially decreased with advanced coding techniques.

Zavisno od protoka a na osnovu „Strategije i akcionog plana“ [2], definisane su sledeće tri klase širokopojasnog pristupa, od kojih je prva najznačajnija za potrebe vojske:. – u trećoj klasi su protoci iznad 1 GB/s, te će se koristiti za potrebe nauke i medicine. Ta klasa je posebno značajna za razvoj ruralnih i udaljenih oblasti – primena interneta i mobilnih telefona poboljšava kvalitet života (od bržeg i jednostavnijeg komuniciranja, preko lakšeg pristupa informacijama, do zabave i kulturnih događaja). Problem u prenosu pokretne video-slike je u zahtevu za potrebnom širinom propusnog opsega, posebno kada je reč o prenosu slike visoke rezolucije (High Definition TeleVision-HDTV). Pri prenosu tih signala primenjuje se kompresija, što može da dovede do oštećenja slike, odnosno do pada kvaliteta. Uticaj izgubljenog paketa na kvalitet slike koji se vidi na ekranu zavisiće od toga koji se deo paketa izgubio i od mogućnosti prikrivanja greške
