Abstract

Smart Farming has become the main trend in agriculture sector. Industrial investments are increasing from day to day to achieve integration of IoT solutions in their smart farming products to cut down the overall cost, increase quality and quantity of the harvesting. Advancements in communication technologies such as GSM and GPRS have enabled remote controlling of irrigation systems. But a precision agriculture system needs continuous monitoring of all the climatic conditions. We propose a MQTT protocol based smart farming solution to collect knowledge from the field ambience for continuous analysis and also to develop and deploy a smart technology for agriculture sector for improving environmental and agricultural sustainability to improve crop traceability and to increase overall yield. The focus area of the proposed system is environmental parameters such as crops temperature, ambient humidity, soil moisture level and light intensity. We also evaluate at the end the performance and efficiency of MQTT protocol for different loading conditions in this application.
