Abstract

Objective To investigate the application effect and safety of modified preauricular and temporal-conjunctiva-intraoral incision approach combined with open reduction and internal fixation on orbital-maxillary-zygomatic (OMZ) complex fractures. Methods Seventy-eight patients with OMZ complex fracture treated in Fenyang Hospital from May 2012 to March 2017 were selected and divided into control group (39 cases) and study group (39 cases) according to random number table method. Patients in control group were treated by open reduction and internal fixation of fracture through the coronal-margo infraorbitalis-oral inter incision. Patients in study group were treated by the internal fixation of fracture open reduction by modified preauricular and temporal-conjunctiva-intraoral incision. The operation conditions, the effect of fracture reduction, the score of incision scar and the incidence of complications of two groups were counted. Results The length of incision and the time of operation in study group were shorter than those in control group, and the amount of intraoperative blood loss in study group was less than that in control group (P 0.05. In study group, the concealment degree of scar, incision scar width and scar protruding degree were higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The incidence of complications in study group (7.69%) was significantly lower than that in control group (25.64%), P<0.05. Conclusions Modified preauricular and temporal-conjunctiva-intraoral incision and open internal fixation in the treatment of patients with OMZ complex fractures has better reduction effect. And it can reduce the surgical trauma, by which the concealment degree of scar, the width and the extent of the protruding are better, and the incidence of complications is low. Key words: Modified preauricular and temporal-conjunctiva-intraoral incision; Open reduction and internal fixation of fracture; Orbital-maxillary-zygomatic complex fractures
