Abstract

Objective To investigate the short-term clinical efficacy of a modified biliary-enteric loop type (Warren) anastomosis to treat biliary tract dilatation in children. Methods The clinical data of 30 children with biliary tract dilatation, who had accepted modified biliary-enteric loop type (Warren) anastomosis from October 2008 to December 2010,were retrospectively analyzed.During the same period, clinical data of 25 children with biliary tract dilatation who underwent the biliary-enteric Roux-en-Y anastomosis were collected as controls. Results Compared with controls, operation time (56 ± 9 min) for biliary-enteric anastomosis, patients' recovery time (23.0 ± 3.4 h) and hospital stay (9 ± 1 d) were decreased using the modified loop-type biliaryenteric anastomosis technique (Warren). There was no significant difference between the two groups in biliary drainage, jaundice elimination and postoperative complications. Conclusions The short-term clinical outcome suggests the modified biliary-enteric loop type (Warren) anastomosis is a simple, safe and reliable operation technique for patients with biliary tract dilatation. The long-term efficacy evaluation is still needed. Key words: Choledochal cyst; Anastomosis, Roux-en-Y
