Abstract

ABSTRACT In order to achieve better benefits, distributed generation (DG) sources of optimum size need to be placed at optimum location. A new optimisation algorithm, named as mixed discrete student psychology-based optimisation (MDSPBO) algorithm, is applied to solve the DG optimisation problem with the objective of real power loss minimisation. Using the proposed MDSPBO algorithm, the location and the sizing of DG have been optimised simultaneously. In this work, optimum placement of unity power factor (UPF) DG and shunt capacitor to two different distribution networks (DNs) are studied. Simultaneous placement of UPF-DG and shunt capacitor is also studied for both the DNs. To analyze the performance of the proposed MDSPBO, statistical analysis has been performed. From statistical analysis, it may be established that the MDSPBO may find the optimum solution and the performance of MDSPBO is quite better compared to other considered optimisation algorithms with high-level of significance.
