Abstract

This chapter discusses the technical principle, application, and development of Selective Laser Melting and Laser Solid Forming, in which Additive Manufacturing is applied. It analyzes the restoration and surface modification of marine propellers, gears, impellers. The chapter also discusses the application of metal additive manufacturing in shipping and marine engineering by taking an example of several typical parts in shipping and marine engineering. In the shipping and marine engineering field, marine engineering equipment is a general term for all kinds of equipment used to develop, exploit, and protect the ocean, and it is also the precondition and foundation for marine economy development. In foreign countries, there are many cases of application of metal additive manufacturing in shipping and marine engineering, which have referential values for country’s application of Chinese manufacturing technology in the area of shipping and marine engineering. Traditional shipping and marine engineering have many differences compared with metal additive manufacturing.
