Abstract
INTRODUCTIONTHE increased use of pesticides in and around the poultry house has paralleled the increase in other areas of animal and plant agriculture in the United States. Still, the use of pesticides is not equally viewed by everyone. Questions arise regarding the use, not to mention the improper use, of pesticides on the user, the animal, accumulation in the environment (Woodwell et al., 1967) and accumulation in the food product.Bearse (1966) reviewed pertinent literature on the use of pesticides on poultry. More recently, Frazer (1967) discussed pesticides with regard to their mode of action, metabolism, residue problems, analytical methods and toxicological aspects. Finally, a series of reports on a continuing study of pesticide residues in the total diet of humans has led those authors to conclude that “there is no significant difference in the dietary intake among the three reporting periods” (Duggan et al., 1967; Duggan and Weatherwax, .
