Abstract

It is proposed to replace regular electric motor output shaft seals with magnetic fluid seals, which ensure leak-tightness of upper bearing assemblies. A mathematical model that takes account of the interaction of magnetic and hydrodynamic processes in the seal gap is developed. The results of tests and operation of the magnetic fluid seals are reported.
