Abstract

The least-squares method used by Merts and Collins to solve the differential equations describing electron-atom collisions in the absence of exchange has been extended to treat the integro-differential equations representing atomic rearrangement collisions. To illustrate the method we consider positronium formation cross sections for positron collisions with hydrogen atoms and with helium ions. Variational corrections to the method are discussed.
