Abstract

A laser ultrasonic method based on guided waves was proposed to characterize delamination defects in Cu/Al composites. Simulation analysis was used to analyse to the propagation characteristics of laser ultrasound. The delamination defects made the mode of laser ultrasound change from surface wave to guided wave. The influences of delamination size on guided waves were analyzed to investigate the interaction between laser ultrasound and delamination. The amplitudes of the guided waves were used to characterize the delamination defect. A laser ultrasound experimental platform was built. The experimental results and simulation analysis results have similar trends and characteristics. The C-scan imaging results can show the location and size of the delamination defects. Therefore, the detection method based on laser ultrasonic technology is effective for delamination detection in Cu/Al composites, which can provide real-time monitoring data for the rolling process.
