Abstract

Objective To explore the application of laparoscopic technique in prostatic utricle associated with hypospadias in children. Methods Nine hospitalized children with prostatic utricle plus epididymitis from Jan. 2005 to Mar. 2015 were recruited. The involved side was right (n=2) and left (n=7). Their average age was 4.2(1.8-7.5) years. The types of hypospadias were penile (n=2), penoscrotal (n=3) and perineal (n=4). All chromosomal genotypes were of 46XY. Except for urethral stricture, urine flow rate test was conducted. Laparoscopic resections of utricle (n=5) and vas deferens (n=4) were performed. Results During a follow-up period of 2-5 years, all patients recovered well without epididymitis recrudesce or other complications. Conclusions For symptomatic prostatic utricle associated with hypospadias, laparoscopic technique can match or even surpass the efficacies of traditional open surgery. For recurrent epididymitis, laparoscopic resection of vas deferens is preferred. Key words: Laparoscopic; Prostatic utricle; Hypospadias; Epididymitis; Ductus deferens
