Abstract

The authors deal with the problem of determining the local properties and power loss in ferromagnetic material subjected to mechanical cutting. They use an IR camera to record local temperature rise on the surface of ferromagnetic strips including in the punched region. Next, the temperature measured is used in the numerical models that allow estimation of the power loss density distribution. A simple inverse thermal model for a ferromagnetic strip with non-uniform power loss is presented. The correctness of the results obtained from the simple inverse model is verified using the 3D thermal Finite Element Model (FEM) and compared with the results from the literature.
