Abstract

The degree of urbanization at the global level is such that the trend of population relocation from rural areas to cities continues and accelerates. According to the reports of the United Nations (UN), at least two-thirds of the world᾽s population will live in cities by 2050. This trend is reflected in the City of Sarajevo, as the largest urban center in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Efficient and effective transport in urban centers is becoming a daily prerequisite for maintaining a better life and business activities. Increasing attention is being consecrated to the challenges and problems faced by postal and logistics companies serving urban areas. The classic concept of city logistics did not produce the desired effects, especially because the requirements of sustainable development and environmental protection are becoming more and more strict. The most current issues of city logistics include infrastructural and spatial limitations related to the time and place of delivery, inefficient processes, loading/unloading of goods, increased energy costs, as well as high CO2 emissions. The first goal of the paper is to provide an overview of innovative technologies that can be used to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of city logistics. Special attention in the paper is focused on the analysis of the current state of delivery and infrastructural limitations in the City of Sarajevo, which are faced by companies that do city delivery. The main goal of the paper is to make a proposal for improving urban delivery in the City of Sarajevo through the application of certain innovative technologies.
