Abstract

The morbidity and mortality of various causes of liver cirrhosis and liver failure are still high. Due to the shortage of donor liver, the high cost of surgery, the injury caused by the operation, the postoperative complications and the graft rejection, the problem of liver transplantation has been limited. Umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells transplantation may be used as a replacement for liver transplantation for end-stage liver disease. The advantages of umbilical cord blood mesenchymal stem cells and the treatment of end-stage liver disease, basic research, clinical application, transplantation pathway and existing problems are reviewed.
