Abstract

The usefulness of high pressure infrared spectroscopic studies as a preliminary step in inorganic syntheses is illustrated. The reactivity of the transition metal complexes [VCl 2(PEt 3) 2] 2 and Mo 2Cl 4(PEt 3) 4 with CO, N 2, and H 2 was screened. The reversible reaction of [VCl 2(PEt 3) 2] 2, and the irreversible reaction of Mo 2Cl 4(PEt 3) 4 with CO under pressure are described.
