Abstract

In this research paper, a novel approach for dynamic thermal modelling of cast-resin transformer CRT is introduced. In order to analyse the dynamic behaviour of the temperatures in this transformer, a new thermal model is introduced which is based on heuristic methods such as particle swarm optimisation PSO and an improved big bang-big crunch I-BB-BC algorithm. Selecting a typical transformer, the models' parameters are estimated using the proposed algorithms and the results are validated using the experimental measurements. The estimated thermal model explains the thermal behaviour of the CRT completely. Using the introduced model, thermal behaviour of the transformer is analysed and effect of load variation on thermal behaviour of transformer is discussed in this paper. It is shown that the new introduced thermal model that is estimated using the PSO and the I-BB-BC algorithms is a precise and powerful model for analysing the dynamic thermal behaviour of the CRT.
