Abstract
Heat pump technology is already a rather old technology. In 1852 Lord Kelvin proposed that heat pumps be used for space heating. Nevertheless, this application of heat pumps is still in an early stage of development since only recently has there been a need to use heat pumps in this manner. Only the oil shortage of the 1970’s and the explosive increase in energy prices which followed provided the impetus to seriously attempt introduction of this technology into the large market for low temperature heat supply.
