Abstract

A method is presented for the determination of volatile organic compounds in industrial air emissions, based on sampling by means of either active or passive adsorption on active charcoal and silica gel, followed by headspace gas chromatographic analysis. An improvement in the identification and determination of priority pollutants is achieved by coupling the headspace gas chromatograph with a mass spectrometer (ion-trap detector). The detection limits conform to current legal requirements. The method can easily be used for similar application on other industries.
