Abstract
The article reviews the past decade of synecological research and its application to forest management. It examines the main schools of thought with respect to their past and recent achievement and seeks to identify their spheres of influence. Particular emphasis is put on the quantitative methods of classification and ordination, and on the methods used to relate vegetation to environment.
