Abstract

Abstract An expert intelligent control method is developed and applied to modern sail assisted bulk carrier. The feature and interrelated control problem of the system are introduced in this paper. The design procedures of the expert intelligent control system, including hierarchical coordinated control structure and several main intelligent controllers and expert monitors and compensators are presented. The hierarchical intelligent control is implemented by real-time distributed microcomputers control system, based on INTEL 8098 single chip computer and RS-422 long distance serial communication interface. The intelligent controllers are composed of PID with expert tuner or improved fuzzy controller or improved generalized predictive control. The expert monitors and compensators use real-time expert system techniques to carry out fault detection and diagnosis of the process and give dynamic compensation according to cross coupling. Some simulations have been successfully finished. The proposed expert intelligent control system has been applied to a modern sail assisted bulk carrier built by ZheJiang Maritime Co.
