Abstract

The addition of an electron spectrometer to a transmission electron microscope provides electron energy-loss spectra and energy-filtered images, from which thickness and chemical information can be extracted. This article reviews the techniques and instrumentation required, together with recent applications involving heterogeneous catalysts.
