Abstract

We have employed an electromagnetically induced transparency resonance to demonstrate a technique to perform cold-atom velocimetry. It relies on the fact that the linewidth of this coherent resonance presents a residual Doppler broadening which is very sensitive to the angle between the coupling and probe beams. The method is demonstrated using a degenerate two-level system of laser-cooled cesium atoms.
