Abstract

For adequate assessment of transient response in transmission systems, the interest in the problem of travelling waves has grown rapidly over the last two decades. The paper illustrates the important role which the eigen-value theory plays in the solution of wave problems in multiconductor lines with the principal advantage of setting out the results in a form which is particularly suitable for numerical processing. This contribution also discusses some aspects of the eigenvalue formulation of the multiconductor wave equations and gives a clearer interpretation of the mechanism of propagation.
