Abstract

this paper presents the reduction of unbalanced load in the three-phase system using the Distribution Static Compensator (D-STATCOM) and Synchronous Reference Frame Theory (SRFT) as a control algorithm. The D-STATCOM is an active shunt compensator and separates with an inductor or coupling transformer. The functions of D-STATCOM are improving power quality, mitigating voltage sag/swell, and reducing the percentage of unbalanced load in the electricity distribution system. SRFT or DQ0 theory is transforming the three-phase ABC components to direct and quadrature components to simplify calculations. The transformation produces a DC signal in a steady-state condition. The inverse of the DQ0 component produces ABC components and the input signal to the Voltage Source Converter (VSC). This simulation used Simulink/MATLAB with an inductive resistive load. The result is a reducing percentage of current unbalance within 5.12% to 7.386%.
