Abstract
The distortion technique has been applied to validate quantitatively a dynamic model of a scatter plug as used on advanced gas-cooled reactors from comparison with recorded rig results, A brief outline of the technique is given which illustrates the distortion required for the constant parameters within the model and the assessment of model adequacy. Initially these assessments indicated that the model was not adequate to explain the test results. This led to significant improvements of the model and better under. standing of the model and the tests, Eventually, after several improvements in the model, the quantified criterion inherent in the distortion technique was satisfied indicating model adequacy.
