Abstract
The use of physical mock-ups offers the possibility to evaluate the efficiency of assembly processes in early design stages of product development. Therefore, the challenges of assembly procedures, which arise during the implementation of new large-dimension assembly groups, can be managed prematurely. Assembly training with a derivative product in an assembly workshop stimulates a knowledge exploitation of function and performance of assembly groups. The paper shows the acquisition of technical expertise from shop floor staff and knowledge from non-experts from assembly operations during the assembly workshop, by using the handling with a derivative product. These information were integrated into the implementation process of assembly planning.
