Abstract

This paper proposes to apply for the first time a DC/DC partial power converter to a string of concentrating photovoltaic panels. The voltage/power requirements specific to CPV are first derived, and compared quantitatively in the case of traditional full power conversion and partial power conversion. To validate the higher efficiency of PPC, a flyback active clamp topology has been selected. A special attention was paid to the design of the leakage inductance, essential for the soft switching operation of the converter. A 250 W prototype was designed to validate the working principle.
