Abstract

Objective To analyze the effect of Datsing Bio-Paper (absorbable hemostatic membrane) in the application of the Dixon surgical procedure for rectal cancer. Methods 52 patients with rectal cancer who had undergone the Dixon procedure during the period of February 2010 to August 2011 were randomly assign to receive Datsing Bio-Paper to cover the surgical wounds of the pelvic and presacral areas (study group,27 patients),or no hemostatic materials (control group,25 patients). The volume of postoperative draining and the incidence rate of short-term complications were compared between the two groups.Resuts The volume of postoperative draining differed significantly between the two groups (P<0.05); and there was no significant difference in the incidence rate of complications (P>0.05).Conclusions Datsing Bio-Paper has a positive effect on hemostasis in the surgical wounds and on a reduction in surface effusion and it is safe and convenient. It is helpful in the prevention of intestinal adhesion and obstruction and in the redution of rectal anastomotic fistula.
