Abstract
The article presents a solution through a current transformer (or a transformer that operates in current mode), which provides galvanic separation of the signal between the control unit and the power unit, in power electronic converters. The design of this specific current transformer is introduced. The magnetic core of the current transformer is chosen to be toroidal. The design recommendations for selecting the appropriate magnetic core material are discussed. The soft magnetic materials as nanocrystalline materials and amorphous alloys with flat hysteresis loops meet the design requirements. The errors of the current transformer are estimated. Some other specific applications of current transformers are also presented.
