Abstract

Objective To explore the application effect of Fast Tract Surgery (FTS) concept in perioperative nursing of elderly patients with colorectal cancer. Methods Fifty-six elderly patients who received colon cancer excision in the Second Ward, Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University from January to August 2016 were selected and divided according random number table into control group (n=25) and FTS group (n=31) . Patients in the control group received routine nursing, while patients in the FTS group were intervened with FTS by the fast tract team. Incidence of complication, activity for the first time, length of stay in hospital and hospitalization costs were compared between the two groups. Results Pulmonary infection happened to 2 patients, and venous thrombus happened to 1 in the FTS group. The incidence rate was lower than the control group, yet with no statistical significance (P>0.05) . In the FTS group, off-bed activity for the first time was (40.81±26.28) h, average length of stay in hospital was (8.75±1.89) d, average hospitalization cost was (76 538.76±4 352.78) yuan, all lower than those in the control group (P<0.05) . Conclusions Perioperative nursing to elderly patients with colorectal cancer following the concept of FTS can promote postoperative recovery and reduce hospital stay. Key words: Colorectal neoplasms; Aged; Perioperative nursing care; Fast track surgery
