Abstract

AbstractThis article describes the evolution of computer applications in support of school administration in the United States. Following a brief overview of the structure and governance of public education in the U.S., the development of administrative computer applications is presented, following the developmental framework presented by Visscher (1991) in the lead article in this issue of the Journal of Research on Computing in Education. Subsequently, the extent of current use of administrative computer applications is discussed, followed by a brief consideration of projected future use of computers in schools.
