Abstract

The present study aims to explore the role of the first language (L1) phonetic categories in the second language (L2) learning by examining the relationship between speech perception and production. Two experiments of speech perception and speech production are done, in which, the computer software Praat, a software used for analysis, editing and synthesis of sound signals, is applied to collect data. In data analysis, the computer software SPSS, a typical statistical software, is used. The results of the experiments show that speech production partially correlates with that of perception.
