Abstract

A previously developed computer program for comprehensive simulation of fluidized bed boilers and gasifiers has been improved. A more general treatment for the gas-solid reactions that include drying and devolatilization, combined with a broader range of kinetics, has been implemented. This allowed application of the simulation program to pressurized fluidized bed hydroretorting of Eastern oil shale. The basic aspects of such an adaptation, and comparisons of simulation and experimental results are presented. Overall agreement between those results is reasonable. Deviations are explained and routes to improvements are discussed. This new version can be used as a tool in the preliminary designs of full scale reactors.
