Abstract
Conducting polymer nanocomposites of polyaniline with nickel-zinc ferrite nanoparticles have been synthesized via in-situ emulsion polymerization. Nanocrystalline Zn substituted nickel ferrite (Ni1-xZnxFe2O4 with x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4) have been synthesized by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction study shows the formation of single phase cubic spinel structure without any impurity phases. The saturation magnetization with highest value 63.94 emu/gm for Zn = 0.1 first increase with Zn doping in the nickel ferrite and then decreases with the increasing zinc content in Ni-Zn ferrites. The electromagnetic shielding properties of the composites have been studied in the 8.2 – 12.4 GHz X-band frequency range. The composites have shown high shielding effectiveness (∼ 36 dB) for the absorption of EM radiations which strongly depends on dielectric loss, magnetic permeability, and volume fraction of ferrite nanoparticles.
