Abstract

The relationship between the input signal level to a colour monitor and the generated colour stimuli has been investigated. The NCS (Natural Colour System) has been found suitable to describe the resulting colour percepts. A device has been set up to match the colour stimuli of the display to colour samples, e.g. from a colour atlas. Values of signal levels obtained by matching or calculation have been compared. In some parts of colour space, the colour gamut of the display is more restricted than that of the atlas. In other parts, the display may generate stimuli outside the gamut of the atlas.
