Abstract

Coexistence of an extra phase can make the chemical potential of the constituent molecule in the phase remain constant throughout all the phases in a thermodynamical system. This reduces the degrees of freedom of the system to be studied by one, and therefore, the theoretical consideration becomes simplified, which is quite useful for complicated system like colloidal solution. This method could be effectively employed to determine the acidity constant of amphiphiles, the molecular concentration of amphiphile anion, and the solubilization constant of solid and liquid solubilizates into micelles.
