Methods A total of 47 nurses in orthopedics ward from January 2016 to January 2017 were selected using purposeful sampling and trained under clinical ladder hierarchical training mode. Theoretical and skill examination scores and core competencies of nurses were compared before and after the training. Results After the training, the theoretical examination and skill scores of nurses were (86.35±8.21) and (81.26±9.55) points, which were higher than scores before the training [ (75.22 ± 9.26) and (70.96 ± 11.57) points]; and the differences were statistically significant (t=6.166, 4.707; P<0.01) . The total score of nurses' core competence after training was (159.82±16.21) points, which was higher than that before training (138.82±15.61) points; and the difference was statistically significant (t=6.397, P<0.01) .
