Abstract
To enhance the surface functionality, textile substrates can be treated with appropriate polymer solutions. This paper highlights the application of chitosan (CHT), a biopolymer on a wool-viscose nonwoven matrix using traditional pad-dry-cure method and its impending application in medical textiles specifically wound dressing products. Wool-viscose nonwoven matrices were prepared by needle punching process and subsequent application with different concentrations of CHT. The blood uptake and antimicrobial efficacy was assessed for the CHT-treated samples. It was shown that 0.3% CHT-treated samples demonstrated good absorbency and excellent antimicrobial properties.
