Abstract

Biotechnology has played a key role in our understanding of the molecular biology and physiology of growth hormone. The application of recombinant-DNA techniques and transgenic animals has resulted in the production of unlimited quantities of purified growth hormone and the development of growth hormone analogues. Ultimately, these analogues will be used to enhance growth and production characteristics in domestic livestock and treat certain growth and metabolic disorders in humans.
