Abstract

Drugs in general have been responsible for water contamination when there is no adequate treatment. An alternative for decontamination is the use of a fixed bed to carry out adsorption and thus prevent such contaminants from being released into the environment. This work aims to evaluate different models (Clark, Yan, Yoon-Nelson, Gompertz and Log-Gompertz) to simulate the breakthrough curve of the adsorption of the drug paracetamol on activated carbon under different operational conditions. Parameter estimates and model selection were performed using the Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC) technique, in which it was found that the Yan model was the one that best represented the behavior of the evaluated breakthrough curve.
