Abstract

This document presents Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a decision support tool for household and similar waste management. A set of management plans and impact categories create a challenging decision-making framework for waste management in Marrakech Prefecture. GIS has been used to enrich this study by exploring parameters involved in decision making, and to visualize inaccessible sites.AHP is used to integrate the relative importance of different impact categories and subcategories into the decision-making scheme. The results of AHP application show that among impact categories presented, technical feasibility and economic aspect are higher ranked than environmental impact, political support and social involvement. In a broader context, the use of AHP to structure the decision problem allowed the development of four different plans for waste management. In this analysis, Plan IV has been considered the most suitable plan to follow.
