Abstract
This paper describes the methodology of an expert system (ES) designed to detect abnormal voltage profiles in a power system. The ES then seeks to determine the appropriate strategies to alleviate the problems. The basic idea is to calculate the sensitivity matrices with reference to the buses with abnormal voltages so that effective controllers can be selected and utilised to control the voltage profile accordingly. These strategies would be expressed in the form of rules in the knowledge base of the ES
