Abstract

The paper presents the studies on removal of copper(II) and zinc(II) ions from aqueous solutions in the presence of the tetrasodium salt of polyaspartic acid carried out on commercially available, chelating ion exchangers with different functional groups which are widely applied in the recovery of heavy metal ions from industrial effluents. The research results indicate a high affinity of these resins for the zinc(II) and copper(II) ions. The sorption characteristics of each metal ion in the presence of the complexing agent onto the studied chelating ion exchangers with thiourea, aminomethylphosphonate, iminodiacetate, and polyamine groups were represented by the Langmuir isotherms quite well.
